The Builders
Atef Maatallah

The Builders tells a story about the city and its noise; its people; the restless dance of street vendors; the workers who toil endlessly, building and then disappearing, quickly forgotten by the places and those who inhabit them. The 90 square meters mural, composed of 66 pieces of aluminium, is a tribute to the subalterns, who are made invisible, and yet are the beating heart of our streets and our neighborhoods.
The exhibit revealed for the first time this monumental piece, through which Atef Maatallah is laying a cornerstone of the 32bis. During 2 years, the artist settled right within the center's renovation site to create his mural alongside the construction workers and the neighbors. This time, the mural is a way to tell them: "Come in, this space belongs to you".
